School History

Little Grove Primary School commenced operations in 1997.  The area around the school is made up of a combination of suburban sub-divisions of Little Grove/Goode Beach/ Robinson and small rural lots ranging from 1 to 20 hectares.  The proximity of the school to Princess Royal Harbour is a unique feature of the school.  Despite its closeness to the City of Albany, Little Grove is perceived to have its own identity.  The parents of students attending Little Grove value education and are prepared to support the school to achieve the best possible outcomes for their children.  This support not only entails fundraising initiatives but also substantial involvement in the classroom working with teaching staff and the decision making process.

There is a wide range of experience within the staff.  Most have taught at various locations and a number have worked at a District Office level.  With staff working in the specialist areas of Physical Education, Learning to Learn, Music, Science, LOTE (Japanese) and Information Technology. As one of the first merit selection schools in the state a percentage of staff have been appointed through this system by school based selection panels.  The ability to Merit select staff has been impacted on by the quantity of permanent, unplaced teachers in Albany.

Deployment of staff is typical for a school of this size, Level 4A.  There is a Principal and a Deputy Principal and thirteen teachers. Many parallel leadership opportunities are provided for staff, these opportunities range from undertaking cost centre manager roles, curriculum facilitators, cluster coordinators, becoming a member of various school committees, school council and special projects associated with school or system priorities.

Our school is one that provides endless opportunity for its students to experience variety and success. Through the diversity of our programs, the enthusiasm of our staff and the support of our wider school community, government and private sectors, we strive to fulfil our Mission.  Our endeavour is to make a difference in a dynamic global environment, achieving excellence and enhancing well-being.

In looking to the future and developing a vision that will carry the school towards the end of this decade and beyond, we have laid foundations for skills, understandings and practices that support appropriate teaching – learning relationships.  The relationships where the concept of schooling is a global experience being rapidly shaped by technology and new paradigms for learning.  Little Grove Primary School is guided by the following core values:  Learning:  We have a positive approach to learning and encourage it in others.  We advance student learning based on our belief that all students have the capacity to learn.  Excellence:  We have high expectations of ourselves and our students.   We set standards of excellence and strive to achieve them.  These standards and expectations challenge all of us to give of our best.  Equity:  We have a right to an environment that is free of discrimination, abuse or exploitation.  We recognise the differing circumstances and needs of our students and are dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for all.  Care:  We treat all individuals with care.  Our relationships are based on trust, mutual respect and the acceptance of responsibility.
