Reconciliation Action Plan

At Little Grove PS, we actively promote respect and acknowledge our local Menang culture.  We are in the process of completing a Reconciliation Action Plan.  Some of our achievements so far are:

  • Acknowledging or welcoming to country at important events
  • Installing and flying the Aboriginal flag alongside the Australian flag
  • Establishing a Reconciliation Action Committee
  • Having an Aboriginal representation on our School Board
  • Renaming our sport factions to local Aboriginal animals – Towerin, Waitch, Warlich.
  • Establishment and continued refurbishment of a bush tucker garden
  • Guest speakers for incursions by local Aboriginal elders
  • Welcome to Little Grove Primary School sign in three languages – English, Noongar, Japanese
  • Dual naming of school building blocks with local Menang place names and their meaning.

The above artwork was commissioned by the school as part of our RAP.  We are extremely grateful for the focus and passion that Doug Roberts has put into creating this art piece for our school community.

"This art piece encompasses the school community as a whole from the Princess Royal Harbour and surrounding bushland to the learning areas and faction totems. The school factions are the Warlich- Eagle, the Towerin- Parrot and the Waitch- Emu. The blue is representing the harbour and the brown the boodja- the land, with the focus being on the Little Grove PS site.

The 6 circles representing meeting places as at Little Grove PS there are 6 main meeting spaces. The Admin block, Science block, Library, 2 teaching blocks and the main meeting space the undercover area. The lines connecting each of these areas represent the learning journey the students go on during their time at Little Grove PS. Nature walks are represented by the feet walking on the boodja, the green circles represent the surrounding bushland where the students take part in nature play, gardening, nature trail projects and outdoor classrooms. "
