Letters and Sounds


The English language is a difficult language to learn. With its numerous sounds for the same letter combinations, alternative spellings of words and complex conventions for children to learn in order to efficiently read and spell.

At Little Grove Primary School, our teachers use an internationally proven teaching strategy (Letters and Sounds) to teach children how to read and spell. This is a systematic approach that explicitly teaching students a series of letter sounds in a prescribed sequence.

Our students from Kindergarten to Year 3 progress through this program to achieve mastery in reading and spelling.

Older students who still need help with reading and spelling are identified and given small group intervention in this program so they have the knowledge and skills to catch up.
